About Tracy Cox Custom Guitars and Inlay Design Studio

Our Background

Located in the northern New York town of Parishville, Tracy Cox Custom Guitars and Inlay embodies the creative energy and building skills of Tracy Cox. Here, Tracy combines his skill and passion for art with his love of the guitar. His apprenticeship with North Country luthier David Nichols would lead Tracy to the C.F. Martin & Co. Custom Shop in Nazareth, PA.

As the senior inlay artist for Martin’s Custom Shop, Tracy created beautiful inlays for many high-end customers of the Martin brand. Rock and folk icons such as Jimmy Page, John Mayer, Joan Baez, Roger Waters and Neil Diamond all have instruments with Tracy’s expert and creative inlays.

While working in the Martin factory Tracy was able to experience first hand the tradition of handcrafted excellence that goes into the creation of a Martin guitar.  To fulfill his dream to build his own instruments, Tracy headed out on his own.

Tracy Cox Custom Guitars and Inlay is where Tracy applies his art and craft today.  Tracy has built custom guitars for many organizations and contemporary music icons. Anders Osborn, Steve Earl, Gregory Alan Isakov, Farm Aid, University of Vermont Cancer Center and many, many regional and international musicians own a Tracy Cox Custom Guitar.

Tracy’s work has been featured in Guitarmaker and Acoustic Guitar magazines as well as Fretboard Journal.
